Miguel, Raimundo de (1816-1878)

Vida 

Raimundo de Miguel es natural de la villa de Belorado (Burgos), donde nace el 15 de marzo de 1816. Estudió filosofía y teología en Burgos. En 1838 comienza a ejercer la docencia y desde muy pronto consigue un puesto como catedrático de retórica, primero en el Colegio de Orduña (Vizcaya); posteriormente, en Castrojeriz (Burgos). Desde 1846 es catedrático de latín y castellano en el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Burgos donde también a partir de 1856 ocupa la cátedra de retórica y poética. Su último destino es Madrid, adonde en 1861 se traslada para impartir clases en el Instituto de San Isidro. El 27 de marzo de 1878 fallece en Madrid a los sesenta y dos años de edad. Cuatro años antes, el 4 de septiembre de 1874 había fallecido también su esposa, Rita Viguri de Miguel. Fruto de su matrimonio, nacieron sus hijos Gerardo (destacado médico de Madrid del Hospital de la Princesa), Casto, Isidoro, Dominica y Casilda (a estas últimas dedica Raimundo de Miguel alguna de sus poesías).

Raimundo de Miguel fue un maestro muy apreciado en su época, no solo por su labor pedagógica de tantos años de ejercicio, sino también por las muchas e importantes obras que publicó a lo largo de su vida. De entre las de corte filológico, dio a la luz diversos textos sobre retórica y poética o gramática del castellano y el latín, pero destaca sobre el resto su conocido Nuevo diccionario latino-español etimológico, una obra por la que alcanzó una gran reputación en la época y que sigue siendo hoy día un referente para el estudio de la etimología de la lengua castellana. Como reconocimiento por la publicación de este diccionario, cuya primera edición fue en Leipzig, la reina Isabel II le concedió en 1867 la Encomienda de la Real Orden de Carlos III. Su producción se completa con otras publicaciones de relevancia, entre las que se encuentran traducciones de autores latinos y composiciones poéticas de elaboración propia.

  • Exposición gramatical, crítica, filosófica y razonada de la epístola de L. Horacio Flaco á los Pisones sobre el arte poética, Imprenta de Revilla, Madrid, 1855.
  • Gramática castellana comparada a la latina, Agustín Jubera, Madrid, 1865.
  • Gramática elemental de la lengua castellana para uso de los niños que concurren á las escuelas de instrucción primaria, A. Jubera, Madrid, 1869.
  • Gramática hispano-latina, teórico-práctica para el estudio simultáneo de las lenguas latina y castellana comparadas, Tercera edición, Imprenta de Pascual Polo, Burgos, 1852.
  • Método latino-español, ó sea gramática elemental teórico-práctica de las lenguas latina y castellana comparadas, escrita con arreglo al Programa de la Dirección General de Instrucción Pública para servir de testo en los Institutos de 2.ª Enseñanza del Reino, Pascual Polo, Burgos, 1848.
  • (con Joaquín Gómez de la Cortina, Marqués de Morante) Nuevo diccionario latino-español etimológico, Imprenta de F. A. Brockhaus, Leipzig, 1867.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
