Valdés, Ramón Francisco (1810-1866)

Vida

Ramón Francisco Valdés fue un jurisconsulto y escritor español del siglo XIX, activo en la metrópoli, en Cuba y en México. Nació en La Habana, en 1810, en el seno de una familia cuya calidad nos es desconocida. A los 11 años ya había culminado el bachillerato en Filosofía en el Real Seminario de San Carlos y, antes de cumplir los 15, se licenció y doctoró en Derecho por la Real y Pontificia Universidad de San Jerónimo. Al término de sus estudios, ocupó diversas cátedras en la institución en la que se había formado y comenzó a ejercer la abogacía, tarea que lo ocupó por espacio de 36 años. Además, ingresó en la habanera Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País. En torno a 1840 se trasladó a Madrid, ciudad en la que vivió durante unos años y en cuyos círculos de poder logró introducirse; fue propuesto como diputado, pero finalmente no consiguió el escaño. Desengañado, regresó a La Habana y, desde allí, viajó a la Ciudad de México, en la que se avecindó por espacio de nueve años, desde 1845 a 1854. En la capital mexicana, gracias su prestigio como jurista, desempeñó diversos cargos en el gobierno de aquella nación. Tras la Revolución de Ayutla y el exilio del general López de Santa Anna (1794-1876), hechos que frustraron su nombramiento como cónsul mexicano en los Estados Unidos, regresó a su ciudad natal, en la que residió hasta su muerte. Ramón Francisco Valdés falleció en La Habana, en 1866, con tan solo 56 años de edad.
El quehacer filológico de este autor estuvo subordinado a sus trabajos sobre legislación. De hecho, únicamente se valió de la técnica lexicográfica por su acreditado valor didáctico para la composición de dos manuales, destinados a los estudiantes de Derecho, que recogen de forma ordenada la legislación criminal de México y Cuba. Cabe recordar que, en esa isla caribeña, la legislación general española tenía algunas particularidades debidas a las características especiales de aquel territorio.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
