Galván, Mariano (1782-1876)

Vida

Mariano Galván Rivera fue un librero y editor mexicano del siglo XIX. Nació en Tepotzotlán (México) en 1782. En la década de 1820 se instaló en la capital mexicana, donde desarrolló su carrera editorial con la apertura, en 1826, de su propia oficina tipográfica. En 1840 le embargaron todos sus bienes, sin embargo, apenas dos años más tarde, abrió una librería para continuar con su actividad. Perteneció a la Asamblea de Notables que decidió la instauración del Segundo Imperio Mexicano (1863-1867). A la caída de este, fue apresado y permaneció recluido hasta que, por motivos de salud, le concedieron el indulto. Falleció en la Ciudad de México en 1876.

Mariano Galván Rivera es conocido por sus calendarios, que empezó a publicar en 1826 (Calendario de Mariano Galván Rivera para el año de 1827. Arreglado al meridano de México, Tip. de R. Rafael, México, 1826). Entre los títulos más destacados que se imprimieron en su oficina se encuentran una Sagrada Biblia editada en 25 volúmenes (Imprenta de Galván, México, 1826) y El Periquillo Sarniento (5 vols., Imprenta de Galván, México, 1830-1831) de José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi (1776-1827). Publicó dos obras didácticas basadas en textos anteriores: Catecismo de urbanidad civil y cristiana, para uso de las escuelas (Imprenta de Santiago Pérez, México, 1843), elaborado a partir del Catecismo de urbanidad civil y cristiana, para uso de las escuelas y seminarios del reyno, con las reglas de discreción de palabras y ceremonias en todos los casos que pueden ocurrir en el trato. Va añadido el arte de conducirse en la mesa, y trinchar con desembarazo todo género de viandas todo por preguntas y respuestas fáciles (Imprenta de Collado, Madrid, 1817) de Santiago Delgado (1763-post 1821) y El nuevo Quirós. Esta última es una edición ampliada y mejorada de los Elementos de gramática castellana (Imprenta que fue de Fuentenebro, Madrid, 1815) de Diego Narciso Herranz y Quirós (1755-ca. 1837), concretamente en los apartados de ortografía y ortología españolas, que Galván consideró deficientes. Al texto tradicional de Herranz y Quirós, añadió la teoría ortológica que elaboró Mariano José Sicilia (1777-ante 1862) en sus Lecciones elementales de Ortología y Prosodia (Librería Americana, París, 1827-1828) y la ortográfica de la Academia. Se publicó una segunda edición (El nuevo Quirós. Elementos de gramática y ortografía castellana, dispuestos en forma de diálogo para la mejor instrucción de la juventud. Obra sacada de la que escribió D. Diego Herranz y Quirós y de los más célebres ideólogos modernos, por lo que respecta a la gramática, pues la ortografía es la última que ha publicado la Academia Española, Poissy, México, 1849) y una tercera con el título de El nuevo Quirós. Elementos de gramática y ortografía castellana, dispuesta en forma de diálogo para la mejor instrucción de la juventud (Librería de Galván, México, 1852).

The browser

Performing a search in the BVFE is very simple. Either write the word or string of words in our browser, search for a specific category, or perform an alphabetical search by choosing a letter.

The BVFE regurlaly publishes new bibliographical recordsLatest bibliographical records. Our team is constantly searching for new entries. We choose our content meticulously and verify our links regularly.

Several times a month

We add new content several times a month. We gradually add more content to existing entries, and likewise add more categories and subcategories as future needs require reclassification.

Printing bibliographical records

All of the bibliographical recordsImprimir registro de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española that are in the BVFE can be printed. Click on the "Print" button located below each record. A new window will open with the content of the file ready for printing.

Printing the works

The BVFE does not own the intellectual property rights to the entries, it only selects, organizes and indicates the sites where they are located. As such, it is impossible to print the copies from the BVFE. You must agree to the legal conditions of the websites that contain the copies.

Extensions

We are currently devising several extensions for the website. We will gradually integrate upgrades and more functions. The BVFE welcomes any suggestions that our users may have.

Submission of new URLs

Clicking on the + sign located on the dropdown tab at the top of the website Refer a URL or make a suggestion will take you to a form that has a field where you can send a URL address that has not yet been included in the BVFE. It is simple to use: just indicate the URL of the entry and we will do the rest, after completing the corresponding checks.
